Private Institutions to Follow Common Admission Tests in Karnataka
From the academic year 2025-26, the private universities in Karnataka that offer professional courses will not hold separate entrance examinations. This change has been brought by the directive from the higher education department that has made these universities to form an association and to align with the existing entrance tests.
In a meeting held recently with Higher Education Minister Dr. M C Sudhakar presiding over the meeting, the representatives of 17 out of the 27 private universities that offer professional courses agreed to this approach.
In the meeting, Dr. Sudhakar said that some universities have adopted the use of JEE scores while others use KCET or COMEDK scores for admission, depending on the university’s discretion. The higher education department also suggested that a single exam for all private universities should be taken into account.
Further, the minister said that the government is thinking of a single examination for admission to general degree courses in government affiliated colleges and universities. But no decision has been taken on this matter yet, as the debate is still in progress.
