ONOS Scheme to Make Research Journals Accessible to Students

India's research landscape is set to undergo a significant transformation with the launch of the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative. This ambitious scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet, aims to provide seamless access to a vast repository of scholarly journals to millions of students, faculty, and researchers across the country.

By consolidating disparate journal subscriptions and negotiating favorable deals with leading publishers, ONOS will level the playing field for researchers in both urban and rural areas. This will empower them to conduct cutting-edge research, fostering innovation and accelerating scientific discovery.

The initiative is expected to have a profound impact on India's higher education institutions, particularly those in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. By providing access to top-tier journals, ONOS will enable researchers in these institutions to compete globally and contribute to the advancement of knowledge.

Furthermore, the scheme will facilitate interdisciplinary research by breaking down silos between different fields of study. This will encourage collaborative efforts and the emergence of novel ideas.

With a budget allocation of Rs 6,000 crore for three years, ONOS represents a significant investment in India's research infrastructure. By prioritizing access to knowledge, the government aims to position India as a global research powerhouse.
