Latest Education Survey Reveals Surge in Female Enrollment in Higher Studies
The surge in female enrollment in higher education in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj marks a significant milestone in the journey towards gender equality and women's empowerment. The latest data from the current academic session reveals a noteworthy trend of more girls opting for higher education compared to boys, with over 2 lakh more female students enrolled than their male counterparts.
With a total enrollment of 54,76,441 students in traditional courses across 62 universities and 7925 colleges in the state, this academic session has seen the highest number of admissions in state universities and colleges in the last seven years. The increase of over 10 lakh students compared to the previous year indicates a growing interest in higher education among both genders.
This positive trend in female enrollment is aligned with the goal of increasing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education to 50 per cent by 2030, demonstrating progress towards bridging the gender gap in education. In previous academic sessions, including 2022-23 and 2021-22, more girls have enrolled in higher education compared to boys, showcasing a consistent and encouraging trend.
The widening gap in favor of female enrollment over the years reflects changing societal attitudes towards women's education and highlights the increasing recognition of the importance of education in women's lives. This shift towards greater female participation in higher education is a testament to the efforts towards promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in the region.
