IIS Mumbai to Equip 5,000 Students Annually with Industry 4.0 Skills
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in Mumbai, with a focus on preparing Indian youth for national and global job opportunities in Industry 4.0. The institute will provide training in various trades such as factory automation, digital manufacturing, mechatronics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and additive manufacturing to create a workforce ready for both service and manufacturing sectors, as well as other emerging industries.
Created via a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the educational institution is a joint effort between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India and Tata IIS (a section 8 company under Tata Trusts).
The Prime Minister stressed that a country is only trusted by the world if its youth is confident. He observed that the self-assurance of the present youth in India is shaping a fresh narrative for the country's future and emphasized that the international community views India as a major center for manpower, offering extensive prospects in areas such as education, training, healthcare, and software development worldwide. To get India's young people ready for these opportunities, the Prime Minister stressed that the government is matching their skills with international standards.
Jayant Chaudhary, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State, Ministry of Education, Govt of India remarked, “Institutions like IIS are pivotal in shaping a future-ready workforce, translating the Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of India as the 'Skill Capital of the World' into a reality. By equipping our youth with cutting-edge expertise, this institute is not merely opening doors to opportunities within India but is positioning them to compete and excel in global markets as well."
