3,721 Institutions Secure AICTE Approval, Karnataka Leads the list
A total of 3,271 institutions offering BMS, BBA, and BCA courses nationwide have been granted approval by the All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) so far. This marks the first time these courses have come under the council's regulations this year. Maharashtra leads with 467 approved institutions, followed by Karnataka with 694.
Other states with significant numbers of approved institutions include Kerala (309), Madhya Pradesh (183), and Punjab (159). AICTE Chairman TG Sitharam emphasized the expedited approval process and announced plans to release a uniform curriculum framework for feedback within a week. Teacher training initiatives are also set to begin soon. The council has extended the application deadline for approvals until April 16 to facilitate a smooth process.
After Maharashtra and Karnataka, Telangana (158), Gujarat (153), Bihar (153), Uttar Pradesh (152), Haryana (153), and Tamil Nadu (114) have over 100 approved institutions each.
Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, a recent state government letter responding to a query from a university has caused confusion among colleges. The letter clarifies that permissions for new colleges, additional divisions, batches, and subjects under BMS, BBA, BCA, or courses in design and fashion design must be sought from the AICTE for the academic year 2024-25. This clarification comes after the state received numerous proposals for letters of intent for new colleges offering these courses. The letter emphasizes that proposals for these AICTE-regulated courses should not be sent to the government and instructs universities to ensure institutions meet all AICTE criteria before issuing a no-objection certificate.
