Jammu and Kashmir Opens First Space Lab to Inspire Students to Seek Careers in Astronomy
The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory has opened its first space lab at Government Higher Secondary School Boys in Kishtwar. The space lab is specifically designed for students from government schools. The space lab, built by Vyomika Space Academy as part of the ISRO space tutor programme, was funded by the Directorate of Education Jammu.
The inaugural ceremony was held at Government Higher Secondary School Boys Kishtwar in the presence of Dr Devansh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Prehlad Bhagat, Chief Education Officer, and Sandeep Rathore, I/C Principal of the host school. Students and faculty from the school were also on hand to witness this historic cosmic event.
The establishment of a space lab in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar government school is a significant step forward in educational technology.
This lab has a high-tech telescope, ISRO rocket and satellite demonstration models, drones, and aircraft. This will allow students to learn about the wonders of the universe as well as notable ISRO space missions.
Govind Yadav, CEO of Vyomika Space Academy, provided a detailed overview of the lab's operation and potential to inspire and enhance students' knowledge of space, science, and technology during an interactive session.
The Deputy Commissioner urged the students in attendance to make the most of the space lab. He emphasised that it would not only promote a better understanding of space, but would also inspire students to pursue careers in space sciences.
This initiative is expected to spark student interest in astronomy-related activities, potentially leading to careers in this field.
