| | 8 SEPTEMBER 2023HIGHERReviewThe US State Department has launched a new pro-gramme that aligns with India's New Education Policy (NEP). This programme allows Indian stu-dents to pursue a one-year specialised master's degree at American universities. This initiative aims to strengthen ties between the United States and India while also en-couraging collaborative growth in education. The programme was developed for the benefit of both countries and offers valuable opportunities to Indian stu-dents.The programme includes courses in wireless technol-ogy, artificial intelligence, and cyber security. This pro-gramme, unlike traditional two-year master's degrees, condenses the curriculum into one year, allowing stu-dents to quickly transition to industry roles. Students may also remain in the United States for up to three years to gain work experience and repay student loans.Collaboration with universities is an important com-ponent of this programme. Indian and American universi-ties collaborate to improve Indian university courses and provide students with necessary skills prior to pursuing master's degrees in the United States. Students will be well-prepared for their studies as a result of this collab-oration.By aligning with India's NEP, the US State Depart-ment demonstrates its commitment to global education improvement. This programme strengthens educational ties between the two countries and expands the NEP's international influence. This initiative benefits Indian students while also mak-ing the United States a preferred destination for interna-tional education. The number of Indian students studying in the United States is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.Meanwhile, a prominent American diplomat, Assis-tant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Af-fairs (ECA) Lee Satterfield, is scheduled to visit India from August 22 to 27.Her visit coincides with the G20 Culture Ministerial and aims to engage with Indian counterparts on bilateral matters. This trip follows Prime Minister Narendra Mo-di's official state visit to the United States in June and anticipates the upcoming G20 Leaders' Summit in early September.FOCAL POINT US INTRODUCED A UNIQUE ONE-YEAR MASTER'S PROGRAMME ALIGNED WITH NEP FOR INDIAN STUDENTS
