Job Orientation: GICE
Creating a New Breed of Industry Professionals
One of the most primal needs of today's education is innovation. Outdated curriculums running in outdated classrooms are the greatest evils plaguing the institution of education in this country. Breaking this barrier is GICE, one of the most innovative B-schools in the country. "In order to effectively teach its students the concepts of the management discipline, GICE uses unique teaching methodologies for knowledge transfer," says Somendra Choudhary, Managing Director, GICE-B School.
One of the unique teaching methodologies used at GICE is Flip learning. It is a blended learning methodology where the process of learning is reversed. The student learns the concepts at home and discusses the application in the class room. This revolutionary method of learning was first applied in Stanford University. It has been observed that the traditional one-size-fits-all method of learning doesn't work for the entire class of students. A certain section of students may display the ability to grasp concepts better when they read at their own pace, ponder on the functions and confer and discuss their application in the class room. GICE, has attempted to fine-tune this methodology to the extent that the teacher revisits difficult concepts and explains in a more detailed manner as the student would have already studied the same at home. Students receive instant feedback in class and also the questions jotted down by each student from their study are answered individually.
Another unique methodology that the institute uses to stir up its curriculum is Collaborative Learning - Collaborative learning is where a group of students come together to study / learn along with the instructor, as opposed to a single person studying by himself. While learning in groups, students tend to optimize their strengths and improvise on their weaker points. It has been noticed that students who come together to study as a group are much more focused and tend to be pro-active, whereas students who study on their own tend to become de-motivated by the monotony and lose interest over a period of time.
These exclusive learning methodologies encourage the students to become more interactive and improve their social skills. All students at GICE are actively encouraged to participate in group activities. Inputs are given on each and every contribution. New skills are learnt from each other as the group consists of students from diverse backgrounds and ethnicity.
Developing Leaders of tomorrow
Managerial and leadership skills which are the backbone of any organization are enhanced and honed to perfection. Instructors not only guide and mentor students but also become learners themselves, thereby leading by example. In an endeavour to equip the students with Entrepreneurial skills and Leadership Management skills, GICE has collaborated with Bangalore Alpha Lab (BAL) to start an Incubation centre for start-ups at GICE.
Another initiative by GICE is the Student Internship Program. Interested students would be initiated into the Entrepreneurs' community right from the beginning of their 3rd semester of education. This gives them the added advantage of hands on exposure and enhances their leadership qualities and decision making skills. First hand market and Industry experience gives them cutting-edge knowledge among their peers. "We, from GICE are enthused to reach out to the student community and offer them opportunities like interning with start-ups at our incubation centre, learning industry practices through firsthand experience from our Student Internship Program," says Choudhary.
The teaching methodology at GICE has been transformed drastically from a traditional classroom scenario, where the student is usually crammed with so much data over a lecture of one hour that the process of digesting all that information is relegated to the back seat. Significance is given more to writing down the instructors' lecture than to ingesting important points from the class. In contrast, when the student makes use of videos, power point presentations, which can be paused, re-winded, fast forwarded as per the desired pace, understanding the concept becomes so much easier. Discussing application of the theory which has already been studied becomes more meaningful and saves time which can be used more productively in interactive sessions rather than monotonous lectures.
GICE empowers its students to grasp the concepts required of an MBA graduate, at their own pace. This not only allows them to get a better understanding but it also improves the probability of better form of application of the concepts, living up to its mission to create an Institute par excellence for imparting quality management and technical education. GICE creates corporate players who are equipped to take the industry by storm.
GICE ensures that the students are job ready when they complete the course. To achieve this target, the institute has an extensive pre-placement programs outlined for each and every student.
MOCK INTERVIEWS:
The institute ensures that the students get enough experience of the situation by conducting mock interviews. This includes both face-to face interviews as well as online interviews.
GUEST LECTURES - AN INSIGHT INTO THE REALITY:
Before the students step into the corporate world, they are given a short snippet of the reality by inviting established corporate leaders to talk to them.
