Birla Institute of Technology and Science was founded in 1946. It has four high tech campuses that are located in Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad and Dubai.
The institution which was originally started in Pilani, Rajasthan offers a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies in the engineering field. In order to see to it that the best students enter; BITS has setup its own entrance test called BITSAT. With just 2,200 seats, BITSAT has over 1.6 lakh candidates who apply to write the test from the 40 centers across the country. They also have over 200 students who pursue the dual degree program which is a Bachelor in Science and in Engineering.
BITS, Pilani has setup the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) which is supported by the BITSAA Center for Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital (CEVC). CEL, which was started with 20 student members now, has over a hundred. The institute has over 100 companies that come and place 90 percent of its graduates with a salary package over Rs.8 lakh.
BITS Pilani hopes to identify and implement measures which will establish it as one of India's top three research-led universities by 2015 and among the leading 25 technical universities in Asia by 2020.
