KEA Implements Preventive Measures to Combat Seat Blocking

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has proposed implementing Aadhaar-linked registration for students seeking seats in professional courses starting next year, aiming to combat seat-blocking issues. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance authentication during registration and ensure the secure dissemination of exam-related information directly to students' mobile phones.

The proposal has received support from the Karnataka e-Governance department, which has forwarded it to the Government of India for approval, as confirmed by KEA Executive Director H Prasanna.

In addition to professional courses, the KEA plans to extend Aadhaar-linked registration to recruitment exams it conducts for various departments, targeting a reduction in impersonation and other fraudulent practices. This move follows the emergence of a seat-blocking scam related to the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) quota, prompting urgent reforms in the registration process.

The Common Entrance Test (CET) is a competitive exam conducted for the purpose of admission of students to the first year or first semester of full-time courses in medical, dental and engineering courses in professional colleges in the state of Karnataka. The professional colleges in the state offering such courses are affiliated with the state run universities and admit students through the CET annually. The fee structure varies from year to year.
