UP Government Launches Scholarship Scheme for Sanskrit Students

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, initiated a scholarship program at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University for Sanskrit students statewide, as per reports. He also revealed intentions to restore traditional Sanskrit schools in residential Gurukul style throughout Uttar Pradesh.

According to a statement, the chief minister emphasized the potential of Sanskrit as a language for science and technical education, encouraging students to take it seriously.

He said, “Advocating for Sanskrit is akin to advocating for humanity” and pointed out that previous governments had neglected its education.

Addressing the gathering, Adityanath said, “Sanskrit is not just the “Dev- Vani”, but also a scientific language that can be applied to modern fields like computer science and artificial intelligence.” He explained its unique characteristics which make it simple and technically adaptable, underscoring the government’s commitment to its preservation and promotion.

The chief minister clarified the importance of the scholarship program, noting that in the past, only 300 Sanskrit students qualified for scholarships, with age limitations in place.

The new program seeks to provide benefits to every qualified student. He also directed all students to open bank accounts for the secure and direct transfer of scholarship funds. He started dispersing scholarships totaling Rs 586 lakh to 69,195 students throughout the state. Emphasizing the importance of Sanskrit and Indian cultural heritage, he declared intentions to reintroduce the Gurukul education system throughout Uttar Pradesh.
