University of Surrey Announces New Branch Campus in India

The University of Surrey, UK, announced opening an international branch campus in GIFT City, Gujarat, India in cooperation with GUS Global Services (GGS), one of the world's leading transnational education groups. Professor GQ Max Lu, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Surrey, and Dr. Sharad Mehra, Regional CEO of GUS Asia Pacific, marked this significant development at the QS India Summit 2025 in Goa.

The project is now in the advanced pre-delivery stage, awaiting regulatory approval from Gujarat's International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) under the International Branch Campus Regulations. Upon approval, this initiative will position GIFT City as a major hub for international higher education in India. To move the discussions forward, a meeting has been scheduled for January 31 between Professor Lu, GGS representatives, and IFSCA officials in GIFT City.

This will bring the University of Surrey's capabilities in business, international finance, computer science, cyber-security, and more to GIFT City. GGS will provide strategic services such as guidance on entering the Indian market, student enrolment, and campus operations to ensure smooth setup and operational excellence. All teaching for academic programs will be delivered by staff from the University of Surrey. The university and GGS are also in coordination with the British High Commission and the British Council in India for the initiation of the project.
