UGC Proposes biannual admissions and more flexibility

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has presented a draft for new guidelines pointed toward upgrading undergrad (UG) and postgraduate (PG) certificate systems in India. The UGC (Least Guidelines of Guidance for the Award of College Certification and Postgraduate Certificate) Guidelines, 2024, intends to make an adaptable, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive scholastic designs to change advanced education.

One of the standout highlights of the draft guidelines is the introduction of biannual confirmations. Higher education foundations (HEIs) ready to take on this framework can admit students two times per year, in July/August and January/February. This approach improves accessibility and gives more prominent adaptability to students, guaranteeing that no open door is lost because of inflexible affirmation plans.

The draft guidelines embrace the NEP 2020 by offering numerous entries and exit focuses in UG and PG programs. This guarantees that students can enjoy reprieves and return the scholarly framework without losing their earlier endeavors. RPL further approves understudies' past academic or experiential learning, facilitating smoother changes.

To encourage holistic development, students are expected to earn atleast around half of their credits in their major discipline. The remaining credits can be apportioned to skill advancement, apprenticeships, or multidisciplinary subjects. This approach advances employability as well as supports a balanced scholastic profile.
