THE 2024 Rankings Out, Indian Universities Faring better Compared to Previous Years
THE Rankings 2024: For the first time, a record number of Indian universities appear in Times Higher Education's World University Rankings 2024. In the largest edition of Times Higher Education's (THE) World University Rankings, India's top university, the Indian Institute of Science, has returned to the global top 250, coming in the 201-250 band, for the first time since 2017.
Anna University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Mahatma Gandhi University, and Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences are the second highest ranked universities in India, with rankings ranging from 501 to 600.
This year, Indian universities made significant gains, including five of the country's top universities. Last year, IISc moved up from the 251-300 band to the 201-250 band, Anna University moved up from the 801-1000 band to the 501-600 band, Aligarh Muslim University moved up from the 801-1000 band to the 601-80 band, and Bharathiar University moved up from the 801-1000 band to the 601-800 band. Malaviya National Institute of Technology also made its debut in the ranking, this time in the 601-800 range.
Two IITs, the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad and the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Guwahati, moved up two bands to join the world's top 800 universities, from 1001-1200 to 601-800.
This year, 91 Indian institutions are included in the list. In the 20th year of the ranking 1,904 universities – up from 1,799 last year – from 108 countries and regions are ranked.
