State college professors to be trained digitally

This week, as the state began implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in colleges in Goa, 110 instructors from 39 disciplines from higher education institutes received digital education training. Faculty from IIT Goa and NIT Goa assisted with the training program.

"Digital education and technology for education training are critical for our faculty to adapt and be active in using technological tools in the classroom." "Implementing NEP 2020 in classrooms is impossible without technology," stated Education Secretary Prasad Loylayekar.

The two-day training session was organized by the directorate of higher education (DHE) and the Goa State Higher Education Council (GSHEC), in partnership with SWAYAM national coordinator Consortium for Educational Communication, New Delhi,as per TOI.

"The Union Education Ministry's SWAYAM platform hosts Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and students from all over the country study these courses, with credits transferred to their Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)." "There is a need for more high-quality MOOCs in all disciplines, and faculty must be trained for this purpose," said Professor Rajnish Shrivastava, additional director of the Consortium for Educational Communication.

Faculty members from 50 higher education colleges in Goa were trained on the subject of 'Digital Education: Conceptualisation, Design, and Development of MOOCs'.

According to Kavita Asnani, DHE's MOOC nodal officer, the directorate inked an MoU with CEC in September 2022 as part of its program 'MANDAVI' (Mentoring and Nurturing Digital and Virtual Initiatives). "As part of this MoU, DHE provided CEC with two full-fledged MOOCs." "The MOOC development process at DHE has evolved over time and is focused on producing creative, high-quality content using multimedia-based modern tools and technologies," she explained.
