Shiv Nadar Foundation launches new Law School
The Shiv Nadar School of Law, a new venture by the Shiv Nadar Foundation, was recently launched at the Shiv Nadar University campus in Chennai. It offers a five-year BA.LLB program for those interested in studying law.
The first event was graced by the presence of Supreme Court Judge Justice MM Sundresh as the honored guest, alongside others such as Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bhattacharyya, who serves as the vice chancellor at Shiv Nadar University, is joined by trustee Shikhar Malhotra from Shiv Nadar Foundation, along with Prof. (Dr.) Shiv Swaminathan, who is the dean at Shiv Nadar School of Law, as well as a Professor (Dr.) Vinay Sitapati holds the position of associate dean at Shiv Nadar School of Law.
It is worth mentioning that the first group already has 45 students enrolled. Moreover, the school has decided on a group size of 120 students for the upcoming year. The Shiv Nadar School of Law provides scholarships to students, which cover full tuition fees.
Justice Sundresh, speaking at the event, pointed out that although India has many law colleges, there is a lack of quality legal education, resulting in law students not being able to make a positive impact on society.
He stressed the importance of transforming such a situation because the legal field addresses societal issues more than any other profession.
“Those in the legal profession must never forget the core principle, that they exist to serve the society and the litigant,” Justice Sundresh said.
Prof. Sriman Kumar Bhattacharyya expressed his happiness in bringing the Shiv Nadar School of Law to Chennai, aiming to turn aspiring law students into top-notch lawyers.
He informed me that the law school “combines a true-blue liberal arts program with legal studies, and the curriculum has been framed on global best practices.”
