Punjab State Council Approves Funding for EEP Under NSS

The Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), under the ministry of environment, forest, and climate change, has approved Rs 8.5 lakh for Environment Education Programme (EEP 2024-25), which will be implemented by National Service Scheme (NSS) at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Dr Parveen Goyal, professor Rajat Sandhir, and Dr Sonia Sharma will serve as principal investigators (PIs) for this initiative, which focuses on promoting environmental consciousness and sustainability through practical activities and skill development programmes.

EEP 2024-25 encompasses several crucial activities, including LiFE (lifestyle for environment) skills development, practical workshops on waste utilisation in landfills, water conservation techniques like drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting, reduction of single-use plastics (SUPs), and waste management through composting, vermicomposting, and creating sustainable livelihoods from waste biomass.

The programme aims to instil sustainable practices in students and volunteers, enabling them to actively participate in environmental preservation efforts.

Dr Parveen Goyal, the principal investigator, highlighted the programme's significance in strengthening NSS's environmental initiatives across PU's affiliated colleges in Punjab. "This programme enables NSS volunteers to engage in impactful activities that contribute to making the earth a better place to live," he said.
