Out of the 87 State winners (first, second and third prize winners) attending the event, 269 winners (first prize holders) will be speaking on selected topics, while the rest of the winners will simply be attending the event.

The objective of the festival is to “hear the voice of youth between 18 and less than 25 years of age, who are allowed to vote but cannot stand as a candidate for election, through deliberations in Youth Parliaments at the district level and above.”

National Youth Parliament Festival’s aim is to encourage the youth to engage with public issues, understand the common man's point of view, and form their opinions and express it in an articulate manner.

Every year on 12 January, Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary is celebrated as National Youth Day and the UGC has asked all the universities and colleges in India to celebrate it with an inspiration and revolutionary ideals to commemorate his work. UGC wrote a letter to vice-chancellors and principals of universities asking them to hold different events on this occasion while adhering to the Covid-19 safety protocols, such as webinars and lectures on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.

It also asked the educational institutes to hold creative writing, essay writing, poetry recitation and debate competitions. It also asked to share Swami Vivekananda’s ideas and teachings through social media.

Further, UGC asked them to share the activities undertaken on the University Activity Monitoring Portal -- ugc.ac.in/uamp.

“Swami Vivekananda accorded great importance to youth power towards nation-building and universal brotherhood. Swami Ji considered education to be a continuous process in which all aspects of life, such as physical, intellectual, emotional, mortal and spiritual should be imbibed. His contribution to the creation of a new modern India is incredible,” UGC said in its statement.
