Oracle Academy Commits Support to MySQL Community in APAC Universities

Oracle Academy continues its commitment to supporting the MySQL Community Team's initiative aimed at advancing technical education in APAC universities. Recently, in Hong Kong, a follow-up database workshop was hosted at the City University of Hong Kong in collaboration with the Hong Kong Association for Computer Education (HKACE), drawing over 50 educators. The workshop, titled "Teaching Database Concepts using MySQL Environment," built upon the success of the initial session held in November 2023.

Mr. Ivan Ma, an Oracle Master Principal Solutions Engineer, delivered a keynote address focusing on teaching fundamental database concepts within a MySQL framework. Attendees, predominantly school teachers, were encouraged to share their pedagogical experiences related to database instruction in the ICT curriculum. The workshop delved into MySQL for relational database concepts and showcased MySQL HeatWave on the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure platform, utilizing Container Service and JupyterHub for SQL practice and running Machine Learning with MySQL HeatWave.

Similarly, in Taiwan, the National Taiwan Ocean University hosted an event, drawing over 150 students. A special lecture by Mr. Ivan Tu, Oracle MySQL Solution Engineer Senior Manager, titled "Open Source Database Ecosystem and Career Development for Database Professionals," highlighted the technical architecture of MySQL and discussed recent advancements. Mr. Tu also provided insights into career pathways for students interested in pursuing a database management career, aligning with current IT trends. This event served as a valuable opportunity for students to gain industry insights and receive guidance from an expert.

Oracle Academy collaborated with the Oracle MySQL Community Team to introduce two new Education Bytes focusing on MySQL. These resources, along with MySQL teaching materials and curriculum, are accessible through the Oracle Academy Member Hub, an advanced learning management system.
