NMC to Take Applications for Establishment of New Medical Colleges
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced the reopening of the application window for the establishment of new medical colleges and the expansion of MBBS seats. After reconsidering, the commission has decided to reopen the window for medical seat allocations in each state, reversing their previous order to cap the number of seats. The deadline for stakeholders to apply for establishing a new medical college and expanding MBBS seats is November 26. Applications can be submitted through the official website.
This window is reserved for colleges and institutions that couldn't apply for new medical colleges or increased MBBS seats because of the requirement of 100 MBBS seats per 10 lakh population. Nevertheless, the commission pointed out that these colleges will need to meet other requirements.
The Undergraduate Medical Education Board, National Medical Commission (NMC), has reconsidered the 100 MBBS seats per 10 lakh population ratio in states. After careful examination, NMC has decided to implement the objective clause under Chapter-1 of the "Guidelines for Undergraduate Courses under Establishment of New Medical Institutions, Starting of New Medical Courses, Increase of Seats for Existing Courses and Assessment and Rating Regulations, 2023" from the 2025-26 academic year. As a result, the NMC has now reopened the portal for setting up new medical colleges and increasing MBBS seats in existing medical colleges.
