NET Syllabus to be Revised: UGC Chairman
The curriculum of the National Eligibility Test — an eligibility examination required for candidates seeking teaching jobs in India's higher educational institutions — will be revised, according to M Jagadesh Kumar, chairman of the UGC. A meeting on November 3 decided on the revision of the syllabus.
The UGC will form an expert committee to carry out this exercise. "Candidates will be given sufficient time before this new syllabus is introduced in UGC-NET so that the changeover happens smoothly," he said.
The University Grants Commission, the country's top education regulator, last updated the syllabi of UGC-NET subjects in 2017.
“However, after launching the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2020, there have been considerable developments in higher education to impart multidisciplinary curricula and holistic education. Therefore, the commission has decided that an exercise to update the syllabi of the subjects of UGC-NET may be undertaken,” he further added.
The National Testing Agency administers the UGC-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as assistant professor in Humanities and Social Sciences, including Indian and some foreign languages, as well as certain science subjects. The UGC-NET exam is given in 83 subjects twice a year (usually in June and December).
