Metropolis MedEngage Awards 301 Students Rs. 1.7 Crore Grants

Metropolis Foundation, the corporate social responsibility wing of Metropolis Healthcare, recently hosted the 6th edition of the MedEngage Annual Summit in 2024.

The summit saw the distribution of scholarships worth Rs.1.7 crore to 301 medical students, of which 29 students were presented with research grants.

The MedEngage Scholarships were conferred upon undergraduate and postgraduate medical students across all years of MBBS education, including the postgraduate training years of MD/MS/DNB and the intervening internship year.

These scholarships are granted to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, excellence in extra-curricular activities, and present outstanding research papers/thesis.

A noteworthy aspect of the MedEngage Scholarship program is that 60% of the scholarship recipients are women, highlighting the program's commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the medical field. Additionally, around 60 students were selected from aspirational districts, which signifies the program's dedication to societal development and providing equitable access to opportunities.

Deloitte manages the entire selection process and involves a thorough and competitive procedure for choosing scholarship recipients. Moreover, an esteemed jury from the medical fraternity evaluates candidates for research grants, thus fostering a culture of research and innovation.

On the occasion, Surendran Chemmenkottil, CEO of Metropolis Healthcare, said, "In India, there is a high demand for healthcare professionals, but many aspiring medical students face financial constraints and skill gaps.

MedEngage aims to bridge this gap by providing financial support and opportunities. By nurturing innovation, we empower the next generation to drive advancements in patient care, improving community health outcomes."

Dr. Duru Shah, Chairperson of Metropolis Foundation, said, "The MedEngage Scholarship program is empowering future healthcare experts and nurturing a healthier, more resilient society for future generations.

It is incredibly gratifying to witness the overwhelming response from young medical students nationwide, with a remarkable 6,019 applications received this year from government and private medical colleges spanning 603 cities across 29 states.

Through this initiative, we are enhancing the educational landscape and providing invaluable support to promising students as they pursue breakthroughs in healthcare research and innovation."
