Maharashtra Government Establishes Committee to Improve Curriculum

The state government has established a committee to develop a comprehensive skill-education policy aimed at streamlining and integrating various ongoing skill development initiatives across the state. This initiative, undertaken by the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, seeks to enhance manpower capacity and promote entrepreneurship among young people.

The ten-member committee, formed to draft the new skill policy, comprises academicians, skill education and entrepreneurship experts, and representatives from both industry and government sectors. An official from the department elaborated on the initiative, noting that numerous projects, initiatives, and programs are currently underway across the state to bolster skill development and entrepreneurship. These efforts include a wide range of skill-oriented courses offered by various educational institutions at different levels in diverse fields.

Coordination among these efforts is essential for effectively creating quality manpower and incubating enterprises, which the new policy aims to achieve. Currently, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Maharashtra offer various skill-oriented courses. In addition, many universities and autonomous colleges have begun offering degree-level courses tailored to specific skills, particularly those meeting local industry demands.

To further encourage entrepreneurship, many state universities have established incubation centres or start-up clinics. The comprehensive skill-education policy aims to streamline these diverse initiatives, ensuring that they are well-coordinated and effectively contribute to the creation of a skilled workforce and the promotion of entrepreneurial ventures across the state.
