Latest Edition of QS Lists IISc Bengaluru in Top 50 for Sustainability
QS Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the 2025 QS World University Rankings for the Environmental Education category, recognizing global universities for their contributions to sustainability and environmental impact. Among the notable performers is the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, which has been ranked among the world's top 50 for its efforts in environmental education and sustainability research. This achievement underscores IISc’s commitment to advancing knowledge and solutions for pressing global environmental challenges.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has emerged as the top-ranking Indian institution in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2025, climbing an impressive 255 places to achieve a global rank of 171. Additionally, both IIT-Delhi and IIT-Kanpur have earned recognition among the world's top 100 universities for their significant contributions to environmental impact, highlighting their pivotal role in sustainability-focused research and innovation.
India's representation in the QS Sustainability Rankings has grown significantly, with 78 universities featured this year. Among these, nine of the top 10 Indian institutions improved their global rankings, reflecting consistent progress in sustainability efforts. Furthermore, 21 new Indian universities debuted in the rankings, showcasing the country’s expanding commitment to sustainability in higher education.
The QS Sustainability Rankings evaluate institutions based on environmental and social impact metrics, emphasizing efforts in sustainability research, education, and implementation of sustainable practices.
