Kerala Government Introduced Four-year undergraduate programmes

On July 1, 2024, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched 4-year undergraduate programmes in the state in all universities officially. He stated that it would bring huge changes in the field of higher education that has been seeing greater transformations across the globe. He also stated that the traditional methods of learning should have transformed and the higher education field is becoming one of the areas of skill development, knowledge generation & employment training.

The chief minister inaugurated this new programme at a function which was held at the Government College for Women in Kerala.

"This is a time when our knowledge and employment sectors are witnessing greater changes. It will be reflected mostly in the higher education sector," he said.

He further stated that a dual-faced approach offering equal importance to knowledge generation as well as skill development will be the highlight of the revised course & curriculum. The students could design the curriculum & course on their own and that is one of the main features of the programmes explained Vijayan.

“The present changes were made in teaching, learning and evaluation. In the next stage, it should be the restructuring of the existing programme,” he added.
