IITH and Swinburne Introduce SIMMECT for Research in Tech & Innovation

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and Swinburne University of Technology (Swinburne), Australia, are excited to announce the establishment of SIMMECT—the “Swinburne-IITH Joint Research Institute for Manufacturing, Materials, Energy, and Communication Technologies.” This initiative enhances the enduring research partnership between IITH and Swinburne, promoting innovative developments that considerably affect industry and society.

SIMMECT will serve as an innovative platform to expedite research and technology development in three primary thematic areas:

Materials and Manufacturing – Enhancing Surface Coatings, Material Innovation, Additive Manufacturing, and Digital Production Techniques.

Energy Transition – Addressing Decarbonization in Heavy Industry, Essential Minerals Processing, and Electronic Waste Recycling.

Next-Generation Communication and Quantum Technologies – Leading research in 6G, Quantum Communication, Quantum Sensors, and Quantum Theory.

Expanding upon the achievements of a Partnered PhD Program (launched in 2017) and continuous collaborative research, SIMMECT will primarily function through three main areas - Partnered PhD program, Joint PhD Supervision, and the exchange of Researchers and Research students.

Through promoting effortless knowledge exchange, talent development, and cooperative innovation, SIMMECT will serve as a driver for obtaining joint research funding, coordinating workshops and symposia, and participating in multi-partner efforts.
