IIT Madras and Sevalaya Signs MoU Pertaining to Healthcare and Education
On Dec 26, IIT Madras and Sevalaya plan to sign two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) in education and healthcare. Speaking at the 35th anniversary video release function in Chennai, IIT-M Director V Kamakoti stated that by combining Sevalaya with Kalvi Shakthi, an IIT-M initiative for Rural Interaction Centres, the goal was to bring education to all through simple interventions. "Through Kalvi Shakthi the pass percentage in these centres have gone up to 98% from 50%," he went on to say.
IIT-M has approximately 200 centres in India and nine in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Kamakoti also added that another MoU has to be set up between them in healthcare as IIT-M is undertaking a project to diagnose and develop treatment plans using Artificial Intelligence. “Using this and Sevalaya’s mobile healthcare units we can take healthcare access to all the villages in India,” he said.
He stated that jobs in the sustainability sector will be in high demand in the future, and that teaching young children about sustainability is of the utmost importance right now.
Sevalaya, which was founded in 1988, has released a video commemorating their 35th anniversary. Muralidharan V., the organization's founder and managing trustee, announced future goals, including the establishment of a university for underprivileged students and a hospital for the people.
