IIM Ahmedabad India's Best Performing University, says CWUR Reports
The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) recently released a report on May 13, highlighting the performance of Indian universities in the face of global competition from well-funded institutions. In the 2024 edition of the Global 2000 list, 64 Indian universities and institutions were featured, with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad securing the top rank. This year, IIM Ahmedabad's position slightly improved, securing the 410th rank. However, the Indian Institute of Science dropped 7 places to the 501st position.
The report indicates that while research output has improved, it has not necessarily translated into comparable success in higher education. The rankings show mixed results, with 33 institutions dropping their position while 32 improved their position simultaneously.
Among the leading Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), IIT Bombay saw a significant improvement, jumping 14 spots to reach the 568th rank. Both IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur are among the top 10 best performers of the year. However, IIT Madras slipped 12 spots to secure the 582nd position, while the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research ranked 606th, dropping 26 positions.
