Four Indian Universities Listed in THE World Reputation Rankings 2025
Four Indian universities, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, IIT-Madras, and Shiksha 'O' Anusandhan have been flagged in the World Reputation Rankings for 2025.
Following on the IISc's lead, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, and Shiksha 'O' Anusandhan were next according to rank. All four have, however, dropped one level below where they stood in the 2023 rankings.
The IISc slid from a rank between 101-125 last year to one between 201-300 in 2024. IIT Delhi ranked in 151-175 and IIT Madras in 176-200 last year; both were also ranked between 201-300. Now, IIT Bombay has just dropped out after having a ranking of 151-175 in 2013. Meanwhile, Shiksha 'O' Anusandhan is the new one coming into this list in the 200-300 rank bracket.
The 2025 World Reputation Rankings will assess, at the global level, universities based on academic reputation and prestige. This year, six performance indicators, including research and teaching votes, pairwise comparisons, and diversity in research and teaching voters were used to assess the performances of 300 institutions across 38 countries and territories.
In its 14th year at number one, Harvard University retains its spot. The second position is a draw between the University of Oxford and Massachusetts Institute of Technology; it is the highest that a UK university has achieved since 2015. Other top 50 entrants are Tsinghua University, LMU Munich, KU Leuven, and the University of Melbourne. Four countries have debuted at this year's world university reputation rankings includes Chile, Malaysia, Poland, and Portugal.
