BHU Implements New Four Year UG Honors with Research Program

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced the implementation of a four-year undergraduate programme, comprising UG Honors and UG Honors with research, starting from the academic session 2024-25, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Under the proposed programme, only 10% of the total admitted students with a CGPA of 7.5 and above will be eligible to opt for UG Honors with research based on merit. The aim of these programmes is to foster the overall growth of students, enabling them to become responsible citizens who can effectively utilize their university education for personal and professional development, the institute stated.

Students completing UG Honors with Research at BHU will be eligible for the PhD programme without the need to pursue a postgraduate degree. The programme offers flexibility in selecting minor courses from a wide range of options.

All undergraduate students will be required to complete credits in Multidisciplinary Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses, Ability Enhancement, Value Added Courses, as well as internships. Those pursuing honours with research will also write a dissertation in their final semester.

The existing five-year BA LLB course offered by the Faculty of Law and skill enhancement professional programmes at South Campus, along with courses regulated by specific regulatory bodies, will remain unchanged, as they fall outside the purview of the NEP.
