Bangladesh Government Issues Directives to Reopen Educational Institutions
The Bangladeshi government has instructed all educational institutions across the country to resume academic activities starting on August 18, following about a month of closure.
The Ministry of Education issued the order, directing secondary and higher secondary institutions, as well as polytechnic institutes, to reopen.
This decision comes after primary schools in Bangladesh reopened on August 14, although attendance has remained low due to the ongoing tense situation in the country. The closures and disruptions were a result of the massive anti-quota protests, which led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The protests and ensuing violence, which claimed over 500 lives, also affected Bangladesh's Hindu minority community, with reports of attacks during the unrest.
The closure of educational institutions, initially declared on July 17, had continued indefinitely until this recent announcement to resume normal academic activities.
