69 Indian Universities Secure spots in the Newest QS Rankings
In the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject, a notable 69 Indian universities have secured positions, representing a considerable increase of 19.4 per cent from the previous year's 355 entries.
What's particularly intriguing is that 72 per cent of the Indian entries this year are either newcomers to the list, have displayed improvement, or have maintained their positions, with only 18 per cent experiencing a decline. Overall, India has demonstrated a significant 17 per cent year-on-year improvement.
Compiled by global higher education experts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the rankings highlight the prowess of Indian universities across various disciplines.
The 12 Institutes of Eminence (IoE), though a small fraction of Indian universities, have made a significant contribution, accounting for 40 per cent of the country's total entries, totaling 180. Moreover, the IoE lead the way with 47 of the 69 top-100 Indian positions across 55 academic disciplines and five faculty areas.
Among the most prominent Indian universities in the rankings, the University of Delhi leads with 30 entries, followed closely by IIT Bombay with 28 entries and IIT Kharagpur with 27 entries. IIT Madras, with 22 entries this year, witnessed notable improvements, while IIT Delhi secured its position with 19 entries, showcasing commendable performance.
Jawaharlal Nehru University for Development Studies emerges as India's highest-ranked university, securing the 20th spot globally in a new entry for this discipline. Additionally, IIM Ahmedabad debuts at the 22nd position for Business and Management Studies, while Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences stands out by securing the 24th spot globally in Dentistry. Saveetha Institute has also achieved a perfect score (100/100) in one of the QS indicators, namely the H Index, making it the top-ranked university in this metric within the Dentistry table.
