2000+ Students Vote in Referendum at Lucknow University

On Feb 8, more than 2000 students voted in a referendum on education and employment issues as part of the Young India Referendum at Lucknow University (LU).

The All India Students' Association (AISA), which organised the referendum, reported enthusiastic participation from female students, with approximately 60% of female voters actively participating. The Young India Referendum is taking place in all universities across the country from February 7 to 9.

AISA expressed concern over the erosion of democratic values in universities. They raised concerns about ongoing fee hikes, the discontinuation of student scholarships under new provisions, and the alarming decline in employment opportunities across the country. They emphasised the importance of such student referendums in bringing important student concerns to the attention of the government.
