Jharkhand to Establish Special University for Students with Disabilities
The government of Jharkhand has revealed intentions to set up the first university in eastern India that focuses on students with disabilities. State Higher and Technical Education Minister Champai Soren announced this project few days ago, highlighting its distinctive emphasis on offering tailored specialized education for differently-abled students.
“I have directed officials to open a special university for differently-abled students. The proposed university in Ranchi will be the first educational institution in eastern India, offering education tailored to the needs of differently-abled students with special courses and educational equipment,” said Soren.
In a review meeting on July 11, former Chief Minister Champai Soren, officials, and academics evaluated the advancements of the Higher and Technical Education Department. Soren emphasized the need to enhance the state’s education facilities to retain students within Jharkhand.
The progress of the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Tribal University in Jamshedpur was also discussed during the meeting. The selection of a new Vice-Chancellor is in progress, set to quicken the university's progress.
In a recent message on his official social media account X, Soren reaffirmed his dedication to the new university, emphasizing its importance in offering tailored education and resources for students with disabilities.
Furthermore, the department has put forward the Navotthan Scholarship Scheme. This project's goal is to refund the complete tuition fees of outstanding orphans and individuals with disabilities from Jharkhand. In addition, these students will be provided with yearly support for housing and meals.
