SUNET Partners with Canvas LMS to Boost Higher Education in Sweden
Instructure, the education technology company and maker of Canvas LMS, today announced that SUNET (Swedish University Computer Network) has extended its partnership for a second term after an initial eight-year relationship. Following a rigorous procurement process, SUNET again put its faith in Canvas LMS to provide an open, modern, and flexible learning management system for Swedish higher education institutions.
SUNET offers essential IT infrastructure and digital tools to enable Sweden's higher education community, creating smooth collaboration, research, and integration both at the national level and with global academic initiatives.
Minette Henriksson, Coordinator of Educational Services at SUNET, emphasized the need for a platform that meets the evolving needs of educational institutions and educators. "The Swedish higher education department wanted an open, modern, and flexible learning platform that facilitates collaborations and can be adapted to individual higher education institutions and teachers' needs," she said.
Henriksson highlighted the importance of community collaboration and innovation within the education sector. "For SUNET, it is important to be able to add value to our service by collaboration in the sector where an active community contributes to innovation and exchange of experience. We believe that Canvas LMS provides the opportunity to share content, materials, layout, and structure between our institutions in a good and flexible way," she added.
In the last two years, SUNET carried out an extensive evaluation process for LMS services. Based on this process, Instructure and its Canvas LMS platform were chosen in place of other providers.
Daniel Hill, Managing Director for EMEA at Instructure, underscored the broader impact of the partnership on educational access and innovation. "By integrating Canvas into their services, SUNET is advancing equitable access to high-quality education in Sweden and enabling universities to deliver modern, flexible teaching and learning experiences to all learners while remaining competitive globally," Hill stated.
He also expressed excitement about the collaborative spirit within Sweden's educational community. "Beyond the technology we provide, we're incredibly excited by the genuine collaboration and community in Sweden, and we are committed to further investing in this relationship over the next 12 years," he added.
SUNET is administered by the Swedish Research Council and is a member of NORDUnet, a collaborative network linking the national research and education networks (NREN) of Nordic nations, such as Norway (SHEET), Denmark (DeiC), Finland (CSC/Funet), Iceland (RHnet), and Sweden (SUNET).
