HCMUT and UTS introduce a new transnational education program

On April 9, HCM City University of Technology (HCMUT) and University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, formally launched a new transnational education (TNE) programme with a Bachelor of Engineering degree.
This partnership positions HCMUT as the first university outside of Australia to offer a UTS programme, with both curriculum and teaching personnel supplied directly by UTS. Students will undertake the entire three-year UTS programme at HCM City, taught by faculty from each university on a 1:1 basis. Graduates will receive a globally accepted UTS diploma.
HCMUT Vice President Pham Tran Vu emphasized that the world-class education is now locally available for Vietnamese students as UTS will be responsible for admissions and academic quality. The first batch of students will consist of 200 students in Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology, chosen through a rigorous process of admission. English proficiency has to be proven by an IELTS level of 6.5 or equivalent. It costs around VNĐ128 million (US$4,900) per semester.
In the view of UTS Pro Vice-Chancellor Leo Mian, the move consolidates the established cooperation between UTS and HCMUT, starting in 2007. The new programs capture innovation and applied learning, with the AI degree equipping students to address actual problems through latest technologies. The IT program aims at practical capabilities and soft skills development, which prepares students for an active digital environment.
Students will utilize UTS's curriculum, online platforms, and learning resources with the support of HCMUT faculty and campus facilities. The programme will also develop in other areas of engineering in the future, in accordance with Vietnam's high-tech development targets.
