Dr. Sanjay Deshmukh, the Vice-Chancellor, Mumbai University on 28th May 2016 officially unveiled one such learning platform Design Media & Edutainment School (DMES) at Pune with a vision to hone the skills of the next generation design thinkers. Three Visionaries Mr. VenuVemula, Senior Entrepreneur, working at Google, San Francisco; Mrs. Sridevi Sathish, Artist and Designer; and Mr. Sathish Narayanan, Founder Director; set the foundation stone of DMES to bring creativity in the education.
There is an amalgamation of interesting short-term and long-term courses like Animation Film Design, Visual Effects Design, Digital Film Making and T.V production, Communication Design, Industrial Design Foundation, Game ÂAR & VR Design and Fashion & Textile Design in the curriculum of DMES that focuses on conceptual and foundation learning and follows industrial processes for software and application training of Design, Animation, VFX and Film education to enhance the creative skills of the students. Technology is growing day by day and Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) is the future. Owing to this prediction, DMES has integrated the Game Design course with AR & VR to make the students future ready. DMES is the only academy in the country training for World Skills International (Skill Olympics). Founded in 1950, World Skills is the global hub for skills excellence and development. It brings the youth, industries and educators together to give them a chance to compete, experience and learn how to become the best in their skill of choice. Skill Olympics take place once every 2 years in different countries and it is purely for the students within the age group of 17-21 years. The school is planning to incubate World Skills training centers for creative art segment with the help of Media and Entertainment Skills Council. Media & Entertainment Industry requires a lot of practical learning & exposure. Hence it becomes a responsibility of the design school to offer internship opportunities to the students. However, things are different at DMES because of the Director Mr. Sathish Narayanan. Mr. Sathish Narayanan is a very well known person in the media industry and he is a consultant for many studios.
He works on live projects which are creative and yet challenging. The recent challenge he encountered when he worked for Shahrukh Khan's Zero film produced by Red Chillies Entertainment. It was one of the most technically challenging projects where SRK played the character of a dwarf. The DMES team along with the students provided excellent solutions and completed the project within 10 months. DMES students have also provided solutions and worked on projects of Maharashtra Tourism film, AplaSarkarseva Kendra documentary film, Lunkad Reality production promotional film and many such projects.
DMES's work has built a remarkable reputation in the industry where many ad agencies, design agencies and animation studios visit the school campus and recruit the students prior to the internship experience. Apart from the film projects, students also get a chance to work for top-notch companies like Bo Tree, Pratisaad, Mudra Communication, Deluxe India, Lakshaya Digital, Affinity Express and many more as interns where they receive pre-placement offers if they perform exuberantly.
