City University Of Seattle:Bringing Carefully Crafted Program Structure To Equip Next-Gen Professionals

By Randy C. Frisch, President
Founded by business leaders in Seattle who wanted their employees to be able to get an education without quitting their job, City University of Seattle was established. CityU of Seattle is a leading institution that continues to contribute towards the enhancement of the quality of Business and Data Analytics, and Data Science Programs in the USA by developing close relationships and collaborating with businesses and industry (considering Seattle is a hub of leading companies in the world).

Right from supporting and encouraging faculty and students to actively engaging in research and publication projects to enhance the reputation of the program and gradually attract a large group of high-quality academics, the key objective of this effort has been to gain an accurate and timely understanding of the latest trends and technologies in relevant fields, which in turn has helped significantly with the cutting-edge design and continuous improvement of CityU's curriculum.

CityU recognizes that in the absence of soft skills, technical capabilities may not help to deliver ideal outcomes, hence, the University is fostering hands-on learning by offering internships as well as live capstone and industry-sponsored projects. Additionally, the courses are designed to cultivate students' knowledge and skills related to teamwork, communication, analytical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving. This practice transforms students into well-rounded professionals who could truly add great value to their organizations. CityU's students actively participate with multinational companies in their projects that center on analytics, strategy, and project management of related large-scale analytics-driven transformation efforts. Setting Benchmarks with Business & Data Analytics & Data Science Programs City University of Seattle offers a broad array of infrastructural amenities to students.

All of its courses employ a contemporary learning management system through which students may access all course materials, communicate with faculty and students, submit assignments, and receive their grades and assessments. This is coupled with a web-based student portal through which students may access all of the support services the university offers including academic tutoring and writing support, library services, counseling, disability accommodations, financial services, career services, and the registrar's office. The portal also allows students to connect to a variety of student clubs and affinity groups."The core of our mission is the relevancy of our curriculum. We put a focus on the applicability of what students learn in the classroom. Because our faculty are working professionals, they present material in class in a manner that reflects the way it would be used in the workplace", shares Randy C. Frisch, President, City University of Seattle.

"The uniqueness of Business & Data Analytics, & Data Science courses lies in the carefully crafted program structure & variety of modalities through which it offers classes"

The uniqueness of Business and Data Analytics, and Data Science courses lies in the carefully crafted program structure and variety of modalities through which it offers classes. CityU's Program Directors and their team of subject matter experts have identified and integrated a sweet spot into the design and structure of relevant programs such as the BSBDA to align the offerings with a fast-growing demand. This involves the ability to take an in-depth look into an organization and use data to form business insights to guide management through necessary changes aimed at improving productivity and growing profits.

"We believe that this sweet spot that is designed to enable students to facilitate and support data-driven decision-making in today's hyper-dynamic market represents our competitive advantage", says Dr. Carnz, Provost.Ensuring quality faculty starts with hiring the right professionals, hence, CityU seeks faculty who have a strong combination of professional experience and academic qualifications. Years of working experience in the field in which they teach help ensure faculty teach the right concepts and theories coupled with meaningful, engaging classroom activities. Academic credentials ensure faculty understand the rigor required to challenge students and adequately prepare them for graduation and beyond. Once a faculty member has started with the university, there are a series of other development opportunities for faculty to advance their teaching skills in a variety of areas.

Charting the Path Ahead

CityU takes many approaches to ensure that its programs meet the needs of employers and prepare students for the realities of the workplace. City University of Seattle has also partnered with industry leaders to bridge the technological gap between academia and industry. Some of these include Cloud Security Alliance, AWS Academy Member Institution, CompTIA Academic Partner, Mendix University Program Partner, Infosec Learning Partner, and more.

For the years to come, City University of Seattle plans to include the addition of virtual and augmented reality modules into the curriculum as well as create the ability for students to gain micro-credentials / badges along the way to earning the degree. ACBSP accreditation of the BSBDA program will provide it with the additional quality and delivery rigor that is required by our accreditors.

"To add to it, our projects will include creating cutting-edge modalities to better facilitate experiential learning and serve students with a variety of learning needs/preferences. We are also planning to produce high-quality instructional media including interactive video lectures, podcasts, and activities in parallel with granting timely access to tutors and other resources to assist students", says Dr. Sumantra Sengupta, Dean, School of Business and Management.
