By Dr. T. Rengaraja, PRINCIPAL
RMK College of Engineering and Technology, a flagship under RMK group of Institutions works
steadily towards creating an environment where students are able to focus on their work with an eye towards
their future
Engineering education stands
supported by the invisible
infrastructures of their
response to the needs of the
country and the common
man. The quality of hard and smart work is
always aimed at making the world a better
place to live in for all future generations, is
imbibed in every student. RMK College of
Engineering and Technology ensures that
the students who come into their learning
halls imbibe these values. Begun in 2008,
this college is affiliated to Anna University
and is located in Tiruvallur District, Tamil
Nadu.
To prepare students for their future in
the industry is one of the major strengths
of the college. From the first year, the
college conducts both technical and soft
skill trainings for the students. In the
second year, the college then organizes
technical as well as non-technical
trainings for them. In the third year,
aptitude trainings as well as Campus
Ready trainings are provided so that
students are well equipped to face
the challenges of campus placements.
Through the Infosys (Train the Trainer
mode), the faculty themselves also
receive relevant training and enable the
students to get recruited by Infosys and
other IT giants. They are one of the 140
recruiters that the college receives for
their students. Among the other giants
that often recruit from the college
are companies such as Wipro, L&T
Infotech and CTS. So far, the highest
package ever offered to a student has
been Rs. 4 lakhs The institute has focused on
making sure the curriculum does not
remain stagnant. Understanding that,
students can be prepared through
updating the curriculum, the college
takes the initiative to fill in the gaps.
The college inculcates new ideas
and novel methods in approaching
pedagogy through regular and special classes where innovative
skills are taught to the
student. The students are
thus able to keep up with
the changes occurring
within the industry
and this increases their
productivity making them
job ready. The faculty
too are kept thoroughly
updated through faculty
development programs
organized every two
months with experts
from leading companies.
This helps the faculty
members to keep abreast
of the cutting edge
technologies and also
provide valuable inputs
to the budding engineers
in their domain of
interest. With 136 as the
total number of faculty,
18 have PhDs and the
average experience of
the faculty comes to 9.2
years. With currently
two ongoing projects
sponsored by ISRO
and DST-SERB this
college has a total of
2 patents approved, 9
filed and is handling 10
consultancy projects.
This is possible owing to
the impeccable facilities
and infrastructures made
available for the students.
The Library is updated
with over 21019 volumes
of books with 4683
titles and 1520 CDs. The
Library also subscribes
to 543 E-Books, 60
National Journals, 525
International Journals,
20 Magazines and
11 newspapers. The
computer centre is also
well maintained and open
to both students and faculty
for use. Thus the students
and faculty are exposed to
enough reading materials
to keep themselves updated
on the changes happening in
technology and their domains
of interest. The vision of the
RMKCET is to be a pioneer
in providing the youth with
global quality interactive
technical education to cater
to the needs of the industries
that would in turn, benefit
society. The college is capable
of accomplishing this through
their focus on the basic
aspects of curriculum and
faculty through which the
students can gain look to
their future assured of their
places within the industry of
their interest.
