MVGR College of Engineering
By Dr KVL Raju, PRINCIPAL
Maintaining the legacy of imparting quality education since 1857, MANSAS is about to complete two decades in
technical education throughMaharaj Vijayaram Gajapathi Raj College of Engineering.
When the country was witnessing the rebellion of
Sepoy Mutiny in Central India and Gangetic plain,
the Royal family of Vizianagaram established its
first Educational Institution in 1857. To empower
the common people, many institutions were
established subsequently catering the diverse learning requirements.
Post Independence, the then Rajah Saheb of Vizianagaram Dr.P.V.G.Raju
founded the society MANSAS (Maharaj Alak Narayan Society for Arts
and Sciences) and brought all Institutions under it to realize his cherished
dreams for eradicating socio-economical inequalities to build a culturally,
socially, economically and academically strong nation. MVGR College of
Engineering, one of the 12 Institutions under MANSAS, was established
in 1997 and has been maintained by the royal family. The Institute focuses
on providing quality education through a strong curriculum. "œBeing an
autonomous Institute and having acquired the
flexibility, the curriculum is more aligned to the
Industry requirement and effectively employed
appropriate pedagogy," shares Dr KVL Raju,
Principal, MVGR College of Engineering.
To enhance the curriculum, MVGR College
of Engineering has an expert Academic Council
and Board of Studies for each department.
"œAligned to our own system capacity and vision
the curriculum is designed suitably addressing
the requirements of industry and society," adds
Dr. Raju. After acquiring autonomous status,
under the higher education policy, MVGR has
incorporated many add-on courses in their
curriculum. The institute offers open electives to
provide inter-disciplinary knowledge along with
many additional courses pertaining to fields such
as culture, arts and so on. In all these activities, faculty members
are instrumental. As faculty members are the
facilitators of transformation, MVGR College of
Engineering gives utmost importance to improve
faculty expertise to handle specific courses with
confidence. Faculty members are encouraged
to participate in internships programs, which
allow them to visit industry and interact with
professionals. MVGR College of Engineering also
engaging the services of industry professionals
as Adjunct faculty for lectures and interaction
with students.
Over the past 7 to 8 years, all departments
have entered ion to collaborations with industry

in order to enhance learning system. About 35 MoUs
have been signed and out of which 15 are essentially
active. Organizations like Androitech and Perametric
Technology Corporation have collaborated with the
institute and their latest tools are part of the MVGR's
curriculum. Wipro for Embedded & VLSI Sytems,
National Instruments for labview package which
is an automated tool that stimulates experiences
of experimentation, mathematical modeling to
performance, Thinklabs, CISCO and Microsoft are
other prominent MoUs to mention. The centre of
excellence recognition from VIRTUSA allows the use
of a business process management tool known as Pega,
which will help the students to get an extra edge over
others. MVGR College of Engineering not only boasts
of these collaborations but the knowledge gained by
these is shared with neighboring institutes and other stake
holding groups through workshops and seminars.
Also catering to skill and knowledge development
with additional infrastructure in the form of both for
funded and academic research is sponsored by MHRD,
UGC, AICTE and DST. The Institute is recently identified
as "œTechnical Skill Development Institution" by Govt. of
Andhra Pradesh. MVGR College of Engineering has an
EDC Cell which promotes the concept of entrepreneurship
and also has MoU with an organization which promotes
start-ups. Further, MVGR has an incubation centre
recognized by MSME which has potential to harness
10 ideas simultaneously, which are technically feasible
and commercially viable. An idea "œPower Saving Device
Design" designed by an alumnus has reached the level of
commercialization.
Slowly transforming and making an enriching journey
leading and contributing to knowledge, MVGR College of
Engineering dreams to become a deemed university in 5
years time and be at par with other institutes in research. In
order to raise the quality of higher education, the institute
believes to continue their mission by adopting technologies
such as ICT and new tools which would help access and
internalize the best practices in the world in terms of
pedagogy, content, advancement in technology.
With all the initiatives
mentioned, the Institution
deployed resources and
processes that substantially
and adequately address the
challenges being experienced
as a result of exponential
growth in access to Technical
Education. Further, it continues
to augment its efforts in its
journey towards excellence in
Technical Education.
