Birla Institute of Technology
From our childhood till we complete our studies we read thousands of books all of which are based on other person's works and ideas, written or compiled carefully for our ease of learning. Research is the only thing that actually provides the much needed freedom to the students and that is the freedom to think on their own. Many institutions fail to understand the power and importance of research, having the liberty of thinking on their own the students have the ability to change the world. Unlike most of the institutions BKBIET, knows exactly what is needed to bring out the best in every student. By making research one of the most important aspects of the curriculum the establishment has been making headlines now and again for the innovative ideas the students of the institution has presented in many national and international competitions.
"Our aim is to build an effervescent community of Engineers and Technocrats, where faculty and students are cronies in a mutually inspirational education process, engrossed in learning. This learning process would lead to the inventions and then to discoveries," says Dr. P S Bhatnagar, Director, BKBIET. Smt. Manjushree Khetan, daughter of Syt. Basant Kumar Birla, an educationist and trustee is the guiding force to take the Institute towards excellence. The freedom of thinking on their own and creating something from the scratch and calling it their own gives an immense sense of accountability to the students and research in graduation level is the first thing that teaches the students about responsibility. A team of students form BKBIET Electronics department exhibited their work in many national and international competitions and was selected among the Top 14 Projects under Electronics department at national level. The project was the `Smart Helmet', a special idea which mandates the use of helmets during riding by controlling the ignition of the vehicle by it. The idea of a smart helmet has been considered as an important innovation because idea if materialized can be instrumental in curbing the issue of increasing number of deaths due to reckless riding without wearing helmets.
Other notable works by the students over the years are V-NEXT System, a Renewable Integration into Smart Micro Grid, promising Energy Conservation through Automated Control & Community Efforts, SPARSH System, a Solar powered automobile automation for heat stroke prevention and Jeevan System promises Water Conservation through Automated Control & Community Efforts. Apart from excellent research activities made possible by the training and research center, the institution has been known for having strong industry relations. The institute maintains International Collaborations and MoUs for faculty and student exchange in terms of academic and cultural arena which includes several Universities from France, Thailand and Germany.
