With 195 Admission Palamu Govt Engg College Makes Good Start

The government engineering college located at Basoura under the supervision of Nilamber Pitamberpur block (Lesliganj) has almost 195 students in first year admission of 2022-23 academic session. As principal of the engineering college Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh of BIT Sindri, that has been notified as its acting principal by the state government of this engineering college said, “This figure of admissions 195 in the first session is very encouraging and it will help us further to improve our tally of the admission next academic year.”

According to sources, as government medical college was started here in 2019-20, it had 8 seats vacant as against the 100 intake capacity set then by the National Medical Commission. The start of this government engineering college in Palamu with 195 admissions in the maiden session makes this endeavour of the government most viable.

Palamu Govt Engg College has 349 seats with a good chunk of seats for the disabled, economically weaker section person and in service military personnel.

Sources said, “Government engineering college may become first choice to the aspirants who want to be equipped with engineering degrees as the 2 already existing engineering colleges one of DAV and the other of a sitting BJP MLA are of the private players well approved by the All India Technical Council of Education.”

Sources continued, “Government engineering college has redefined the popular perception here that state government does open or give licence to only ITI (industrial training institute) where plumber, carpenter, electrician, welder etc can be produced but this government engineering college has brightened hopes among the students to become engineer as well.”

However, alike new educational institutions this upcoming government engineering college has its issues like that of furniture, labs, library, faculty and office etc.

The higher state technical education department has chalked out a plan to go for online teaching by reputed teachers of the BIT Sindri in 4 disciplines namely civil, mechanical, electrical and computer science engineering here in this engineering college.

However sources said, “State government should create its office here with men or women at desk like that of reception, administration, student  welfare, sports etc and local eligible boys and girls should be picked up as then it will help connect this government engineering college with the social milieu here.”

The selection of human resources to this engineering college should not be controlled from above but from the eligible local boys and girls be appointed to assist in the maintenance of the college said many civil society activists. Sources stated that in the year 2009 when the Nilamber Pitamber university was set up here many of its officers then came here with their own people and pushed them from the backdoor into the job of the university as a result these people made this university a green pasture which is now sinking.

Sources said, “Folly committed during the time of the starting of the NPU here in 2009 must not be repeated here in this government engineering college. Sources said a large number of locals just have no idea that this government engineering college has started 4 disciplines. It was the secretary technical and higher education department government of Jharkhand Rahul Kumar Purwar who in one of the conversations with the Pioneer first of all made this breaking news of this engineering college having 190 plus admissions in its very maiden session.”

It was Purwar who had said that a small team of 5 reputed teachers of the BIT Sindri, one of the 5 to act as acting principal of this engineering college in Palamu will be pulling through this engineering college till it starts having its regular faculties with regular principal.

Sources completed, “When this multi crore engineering college building was under construction some external forces had tried to extract levy from the construction agency whereupon the local police had to enforce rule of law here.”
