VIBGYOR Group Launches Asia's First Climate Academy
The VIBGYOR Group of Schools, India's largest K-12 school network, just opened Asia's first Climate Academy at VIBGYOR High in Goregaon. Mr Matthew Pye, the founder of The Climate Academy in Brussels, Belgium, graced the opening event on April 17th and 18th. The goal of the program's debut was to educate and train a few selected teachers as master trainers to educate kids, parents, and colleague teachers' communities about the climate issue in India. This one-of-a-kind project was inaugurated at VIBGYOR High, Goregaon, for the Academic Year 2023-24, and will be expanded to other VIBGYOR schools across the country in the future.
It will be applied throughout the academic year, giving students several opportunity to learn about, comprehend, and respond to the climate problem.
Mr Matthew Pye commented on the historic occasion, saying, "The opening of the very first Climate Academies in Asia with VIBGYOR schools is a truly exciting moment for everyone involved." Everyone I met in Mumbai this week was inspiring in their openness and enthusiasm. My messages to Brussels have been filled with gratitude and admiration. I admire the staff's clarity and vision, and I appreciate the students' brilliant and engaged reactions."
Teaching kids how to think about the climate catastrophe in larger, more comprehensive terms will provide them with the knowledge they need to make a difference. This method will enable students to become change agents in their communities by recognising and tackling the underlying causes of the problem. The Climate Academy is only one step towards providing the next generation with the information and skills needed to address current environmental issues and create a more sustainable and equitable future.
