University Of Birmingham Signs Up For Strategic Research Vision In India

Professor Adam Tickell, The University of Birmingham's Vice-Chancellor, signed a range of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the partner of the University at special signing ceremonies in Bengaluru and Delhi.

The agreements are vital to the ongoing strategic vision of the University for continuation of building meaningful education and research partnerships in India.
Professor Adam Tickell signed MoUs with the following:

  • TESCO Business Services – Bengaluru
  • K-RIDE – Bengaluru
  • Hindustan Petroleum Company Ltd. (HPCL) – Bengaluru
  • Manipal University - Bengaluru
  • Aarvee Associates – Hyderabad
  • Efftronics – Andhra Pradesh
  • Vellore Institute of Technology – Andhra Pradesh
  • Bennett University – Uttar Pradesh
  • Indo-British Scholars' Association – Kolkata

"The University of Birmingham's collaborative research output with India partners has almost doubled over the last five years. We currently have over 40 joint research projects of outstanding quality," commented Professor Adam Tickell.

"We are a global civic university with a long, illustrious relationship with India. Signing these exciting new agreements with partners in areas such as railways, sports science, education, and community business gives us a great opportunity to further contribute to Indian society as we continue to forge meaningful research and education partnerships in India."

The University and TESCO Business Services are collaborating forces to create postgraduate study programs in artificial intelligence and data science. The partnership will forsee University experts designing and delivering education programs for TESCO's staff - from training in particular professional areas to formal postgraduate qualifications.

TESCO will be exploring opportunities for suitably qualified Birmingham students for joining in placements to the data-science laboratories of the company in India and will be offering guest lectures to Birmingham staff and students.

University workboard from the Birmingham Centre for Railways Research and Excellence (BCRRE) will be working with K-RIDE – an urban rail transport joint venture of Govt. of Karnataka and the Ministry of Railways – for launching studies into two major areas: Network operational simulation, resilience testingand power consumption and energy analysis and railway  and optimization.

To work in partnership with Aarvee Associates, University experts will help in development of railway condition monitoring and sensing equipment within tunnels and bridges. Partnering with Efftronics will witness research and knowledge exchange projects developed in signaling schemes, training programs, & courses of CPD.

Academics from Birmingham will be working with performers at Hindustan Petroleum Company Ltd. - supporting the development of a research Centre of Excellence and helping for development of innovative solutions to hydrogen production and storage, domestic hydrogen transportation, fuel cells, and re-fuelling-systems.

Professor Tickell signed agrees with Manipal University to create a dual Masters's Programme in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science and explore new opportunities to student exchange among the two universities.

Birmingham academics will also be working with people at Vellore Institute of Technology and Bennett University for development of new opportunities in law. They will also partner with the Indo-British Scholars' Association to creation of a new education opportunity that will offer to students from both Indian & British.
