University College Birmingham Launches Program to Bridge Battery Skills Gap

In response to the increasing need for qualified experts in battery production, this groundbreaking program seeks to address the skills deficit within the industry while facilitating the country's shift towards net zero emissions. The Rt Hon Lord Hunt of Kings Heath OBE, Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Every wind turbine we put up, every solar panel we install, every battery storage facility we construct helps protect families from future energy shocks.

“The Birmingham Battery Manufacturing Skills Pathway is at the forefront of equipping the battery manufacturing workforce with the expertise needed to power a sustainable future.”

 The B-MSP, recognized by City & Guilds, offers a versatile and adaptable training solution tailored for both small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large gigafactories. As the UK intensifies its initiatives to bolster the battery manufacturing industry, this program guarantees a consistent flow of skilled talent with research and innovation across essential sectors such as automotive, marine, defense, portable electronics, and construction.

 The B-MSP was established with financial support from the Faraday Battery Challenge, an initiative of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and is managed by Innovate UK. This program was created in partnership with prominent industry figures, including Microsoft, Atlas Copco, Rockwell Automation, Jaguar Land Rover, Pi-Kem, Delta Cosworth, and Yazaki. It combines advanced technology with industry expertise to provide effective, practical training for skill development.
