UNGA adopts resolution on 'Education for Democracy' co-sponsored by India

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday adopted a resolution titled 'Education for Democracy,' which reaffirms everyone's right to an education.

The resolution, co-sponsored by India, acknowledges that "education for all" helps to strengthen democracy.

"BREAKING: The United Nations General Assembly, co-sponsored by India, has adopted a resolution on '#Education for #Democracy' by consensus. This resolution reaffirms everyone's right to an education and recognises that #EducationForAll helps to strengthen democracy "The Indian mission to the United Nations tweeted.

Denmark thanked Mongolia for introducing this critical resolution.

"The resolution Education for #Democracy was unanimously adopted by the #GeneralAssembly, recognising the importance of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education - and lifelong learning opportunities for all. Thank you, Mongolia, for introducing this important resolution "According to Denmark's UN mission.

Earlier that month, in March 2015, the United Nations General Assembly passed a similar resolution encouraging all UN entities to use education to promote peace, human rights, and democracy.

The resolution encourages member countries to incorporate democratic education into their educational standards.
