School Of Indian Languages To Come Up In JNU To Promote Country's Diverse History, Culture, Regional Literature
For honouring Indian cultural variety, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will be launching a new school of Indian Languages where courses in different languages will be taught in the following academic year. As per PTI. “JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) is starting a new School of Indian Languages where different state governments are giving the university a corpus to set up chairs. They will become special centres of not only languages but also literature, culture and history of that state.”
Vice Chancellor Santishree D Pandit shared that during a news conference on Monday that the School of Indian Languages would have centres for several states where literature, culture, and history would be taught.
Tamil Nadu Contributes Rs 10 Crore
As per Pandit, the states that have expressed interest in this matter such as Tamil Nadu has already contributed Rs 10 crore for its centre.
“Tamil Nadu has already given Rs 10 crore. Four more states — Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Assam will give Rs 10 crore each. We will have a corpus of Rs 50 crore,” Pandit said.
MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has agreed funding for the Center for Tamil Studies totaling roughly Rs 10 crore.
In this sense, according to the vice chancellor, it was approaching other states.
MA and Certificate Courses
The school will aid in gaining a greater understanding of several Indian languages. Numerous language courses are already available at the university. More research, postgraduate, and diploma courses are now being added, according to the plan.
The VC said, “Under this, several centres will be established. We will not only focus on literature but culture and history. JNU has visibility, a brand value.”
“We are India’s number-one university. In these centres, certificate courses, master’s programmes will be offered,” the Vice Chancellor said.
On Monday, JNU also began a Tamil Heritage Week and Indian Languages Week.
As per to the Vice Chancellor, the purpose of the event is to carry out Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and objective to celebrate the history and heritage of Indian languages throughout the nation.
“JNU is celebrating Tamil Heritage Week and Indian Languages Week to celebrate Indian cultural diversity.
Pandit added, “JNU, as one of the leading higher education institutions working to preserve the culture, history and heritage of India’s past, is observing Indian languages week, aimed at creating language harmony and an atmosphere for learning Indian languages apart from mastering one’s mother tongue.”
