Rs 20 Cr Each For 6 Universities Allocated For Kerala Govt For Translational Centres

The Higher Education Department, working under the state government has issued an order allocating INR 20 cr each for six universities in Kerala, to set up translational centres. This being one of the major announcements in Kerala Budget 2022, and the present move for bringing this at the earliest, IIT Madras has a translational centre, which is the first time that they will be simultaneously setting up in multiple universities in India. A translation centre is set up for delivering research outcome into product or service form so that it can be utilized for meeting various requisites and wanting of the society. A translation centre will be having equipment, business development centre, commercial and public negotiation centres and mechanism for having interactions with the industrial sector. It will be ensuring that knowledge, products, and services based on the innovative ideas having patents and other allied credentials. Both teachers and students can cooperate together for entrepreneurial opportunities and apart from this, it will be facilitating networking with foreign universities and investors. 

In the first phase, translational centres, which will be setup in Kerala University, MG University, Calicut University, Kannur University, CUSAT and KTU. Project Management Unit will be formed in each universities this year itself. 

Special purpose vehicle or special purpose entity (SPV/SPE) will be created. Each university will be ready for detailed project report (DPR) by October 5. 

Meanwhile, KIIFB will be providing basic amenities. The government will be creating respective job vacancies for the centres. The universities will be allowed for pool money and policy will be tweaked in this regard.
