QS World University Rankings 2024: IIT Bombay jumps to 1st spot in India
According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, which were just released, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, which is currently ranked 149th, has risen to the top spot among top colleges in India. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), which ranked first last year but dropped to number 225 this year, has been replaced by IIT Bombay. IIT Delhi rose to the second spot but fell to position 192.
IISc was joined in the top 200-300 slab this year by three additional institutions: IIT Kharagpur (271), IIT Kanpur (278), and IIT Madras (285). This year, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras switched places.
With rankings of 364 and 369, respectively, IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee have managed to place among the top 300-400 universities. IIT Indore received a 396th place finish in this slab last year. In addition, University of Delhi has elevated its standing from between 521 and 530 last year to 407 this year. With a 427 ranking, Anna University is also among the top 400–500 universities, while IIT Indore has dropped to 454th place. This year, University of Madras rose to a ranking of 526. With a rank of 571, IIT-Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has entered the 500-600 range.
Additionally, Jawaharlal Nehru University improved its ranking from last year's 601-650 slab to the 601-610 range this year. IIT Hyderabad dropped in the rankings from the previous year and is now in the 691–700 range. Previously listed among the top 541–550 universities, Savitribai Phule University is now in the 711–720 range. IIT Bhubaneswar has also improved, now ranking between 731 and 740. As the best private university this year, Chandigarh University has displaced OP Jindal Global University.
The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Kolkata and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) have also made it into the 2023 QS world university rankings with rankings above 1400.
