PUCA Appeals to AICTE to Exclude BBA, BCA

The Department of Higher Education, Government of Punjab, has formally requested the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to provide an additional year of period to the affiliated college of Panjab University, Chandigarh, Punjabi University, Patiala, and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, which offers BBA/BCA and other professional courses, to seek accreditation from all. The request also asks for a six-month extension of the deadline for complying with the AICTE norms until March 31st.

The notice, referred to as e-Notice, published as D.No. 815/College Education/DHEdated March 7th, 2017, on college education, these are the representations made by the colleges affiliated with the respective universities. These colleges did not offer BBA or BCA courses as they were not recognized by the UGC/AICTE and were governed by the norms and mandates of their respective universities. These colleges were the pre-AICTE colleges; thus, they were working outside the purview of the AICTE as they did not come under its purview.

Anshu Kataria, the current President of the Federation of Self-Financing Technical Institutions (FSFTI), All India, and the Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) has earlier requested AICTE to re-think its decision, which is a bit unjustified because the BBA, BCA, and BMS programs have not fallen under the AICTE jurisdiction since 198 The extremely unexpected of AICTE regulation and oversight of BBA and BCA colleges that happened after nearly four decades of no regulation has been a surprise but also a concern for the academic community.
